Just heard NBC are remaking the office. Why????? I mean its in english anyway. Can't americans understand it??? do they need canned laughter to know it's funny??? Reminds me of the time I was living in the states and mad max was on telly so i invited all my friends over to watch and show them how good aussie movies could be and it was dubbed... in american!!! :x

Nooooooooooooooo!
You CANNOT take a comedy like this, ruin it, and air it in America.
The reason it is a Britsh comedy is that it uses Englsih humour that Americans just don't understand.
What made it so popular was the fact that people could identify with the features of the program - a run down(ish) office in the middle of Slough! If you have ever been to Slough , you'll realise it's basically like a London suburb - something which America doesn't have...

So basically they are going to rip it to shreds and stick some "audiance laugh hysterically" sound effects in the background? - going by the standards of the thousands of typical American sitcoms existing already anyway... (yawn)

i hope it sinks Titanic stye.
Which it invariably will.

This is why I was happy that the US Red Dwarf failed... - The original is the best... and now they are filming a movie here in Oz... :D

But I mean... a US version of The Office? Worst. Idea. Ever.

Yes. Americans just don't get subtle humour >> if there is no canned laughter they simply don't find it funny.
End. Of. Story.

Look at what happened to Eastenders - a depressive(ish) English soap that the BBC tried to make popular in America. It didn't work because there was no way that any of them could even identify with the setting let alone any of the characters...
It isn't even aired in America now.
Some mornings, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps.
