Aussie mafia for chick show

Article from: Daily Telegraph Sydney

IT looks like Sex and the City, but with Aussie actresses Miranda Otto and Frances O'Connor both starring, Darren Star's latest US series may as well have been titled Sheilas In the City.

Alongside Hollywood hotties Lucy Liu and Bonnie Somerville, homegrown stars O'Connor and Otto will be bringing a more mature kind of sass to the small screen as the leading ladies in Cashmere Mafia, the latest brainchild from TV mogul Star.

The plot of the show, tagged the next-generation Sex and the City, revolves around four high-powered executives who have been mates since college and rely on each other as they juggle their lives.

In their roles as Big Apple ball-breakers, Otto will play the boss of a hotel chain, while O'Connor will play Zoe Burden, the managing director of a Wall St investment bank.

Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Sam are suddenly starting to look like serious pushovers.

James Yaegashi ... Frederick

According to http://www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=19106, this show is owned by ABC in America. It must be good, since ABC has shown lots of good TV lately - Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, etc!

Produced by Sony so I assume 9 will have the rights to this one?

It seems all the new shows this upcomming season have similar concepts featuring big corporate types, laywers and CEO's. Long gone are the mystery dramas with a hook.

I think thats because theyre trying to attract the audiences that earn over $100,000. ATM Boston Legal is the only show that these upperclass americans are interested in - theyre obviously hoping that shows like Big Shots, Cashmere Mafia, Lipstick Jungle will also be hits with the rich folk thats why theyre seems to be alot of these type shows for this season.

These things come in phases anyway. Networks try to attract different audiences different years and greenlight shows accordingly.
