Has anyone heard of this? It's a new drama that starts shooting in Melbourne this month. It's set in a Melbourne brothel and looks at how five working girls find love in the unlikeliest of places.
I may be a geek, but it's one of my endearing qualities.

- This looks like one of the most unique Australian drama projects ever seen on television here. Bold, innovative and no doubt controversial I cannot wait to see what looks like a truly amazing new Aussie series!!

Meh. The ads oversell something that hasn't even been seen anywhere yet. Its smacks of bias to hear the network themselves say its "groundbreaking". Do HBO/Showtime/FX in the US advertise their new series this way before they are released?

The trailers dont really do much for me. I might check it out, but I'm much more interested in Dexter.

I think the concept is groundbreaking and only a fool would not applaud an Australian network for taking a risk with something so different and innovative.

Foxtel tonight launched Satisfaction, its most ambitious new Australian drama series since Love My Way.

The Showcase Channel kicked off the night by announcing a second season, to go into production mid-2008.

The provocative series set in an inner city brothel is sure to set tongues wagging with its candid, saucy scenes.

The plush event was attended by the leading cast including Diana Glenn (pictured), Madeleine West, Peta Sergeant and Alison Whyte. The South Melbourne nightclub that doubles as the '232' brothel was also the site for tonight's invite-only launch.

I chatted with former Neighbours star Madeline West who plays 'Mel.' In researching the role West spent quite a bit of time talking to sex workers and admits there were many stories that inspired her, some rather uplifting personal tales. She was also surprised at how professional the industry was. If there were drugs and seedy lifestyles, she admits she didn't see them.

Satisfaction, which doesn't hold back on full-frontal nudity, is produced by Roger Simpson and Andy Walker whose previous products have included Halifax fp, Stingers, Answered by Fire and Good Guys Bad Guys.

The ten part series launches in a 2 hour premiere Wednesday December 5 on Showcase.

Set in and around 232, an up-market city brothel, Satisfaction reveals the world of five high class escorts and their manager as they juggle the pressures of their private lives with their secret profession.

Satisfaction is an exploration of the relationships between these women: the bonds

Satisfaction set out to be raunchy and completely unlike anything else we'd ever seen domestically before - and it delivered. From the opening scene you could tell this was going to be raunchy but I never thought it would be MA rated pornography, with a bit of storytelling to boot.

There was tons of full frontal nudity, mostly female but male too. Backsides, breasts and more. It was strange seeing Madeline West in the bender session with Martin Dingle Wall, who played Flynn on Home & Away. Both ex soapie stars now screwing, taking drugs, swearing and portraying a junkie-hooker love session. How things have changed.

Some of it was bizarre. Especially when Alison Whyte's characters first [i:7a4d17c5e0]client[/i:7a4d17c5e0] told her she looked like his mother - who died a few days ago. And when Chloe was revealed to be pursuing a client because he fulfilled her fantasies of a husband and wife chatting about their days in bed - without the sex. And Tippi's problem with stealing knickers.

But there were some decent stories to boot, mainly Chloe's back story. Mel's was quite psychotic.

I thought it was well acted, you felt like you were actually in the brothel as a fly on the wall. The characters were relatable, an accomplishment considering they're 'sex workers' and aren't featured to prominently on most network tv drama's unless their involved in dodgy dealings or murder plots on our crime procedurals. And the shooting style was very sophisticated.

It won't appeal to everyone, mainly because of the large amounts of scenes involving kinky sex that is being paid for. Some of the scenes aren't necessary and don't progress the story, just used to create some comic relief and reaffirm the shows raunchy style. But if you look past that, it's a great drama with some truly interesting characters.

Sounds to me like this show will be rated R18+ when it's released on DVD.

Foxtel doesn't edit any of their R rated movies, do they (such as say Wolf Creek or Fight Club etc)?
