I just found this piece of news which i found quite interesting:

[quote:b74f7c8329][b:b74f7c8329]NBC looks overseas for sitcom inspiration[/b:b74f7c8329]

By Nellie Andreeva

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC is close to ordering pilots for three comedies based on international shows.

"I'm With Stupid" is based on the BBC 3 comedy about a down-and-out guy who befriends a wheelchair-bound young man and winds up moving into his group home for the disabled.

[b:b74f7c8329]"Kath & Kim" is based on the hit Australian sitcom about a divorced mother and her miserable daughter who live together in the suburbs.[/b:b74f7c8329]

"The IT Crowd," is based on the U.K. Channel 4 series about the geeky and unappreciated information technology workers at a company. All the deals are contingent on casting.

I wonder if the whole concept of Kath and Kim would even work in the US???

I don't think so. It's uniquely Australian in every way.

soory but no - it wont work, its the way its filmed so almost amaturly will fail compared to the high budget shows in the us. I personally love the show and despite it being funny i think alot of the jokes are too aussie for americans to get.

It would have to been americanized in a way. Don't know they would want to remake it, the australian version is just plain awful.

Can't they come up with their own ideas? An Americanised Kath and Kim would not be funny, because it would be a completely different kind of 'umour, and the unique Australian 'umour in the show is what makes it funny!

Can you imagine... I bet it'd have a laugh track and use recycled one liners from the Golden Girls.

I honestly can't imagine a remake being worse than the original, so I'll keep an eye out for it. The Office has reminded me that American remakes are NOT inherently awful, and in my mind the Yanks can only really improve on the original K&K, one of the most overratted television shows of all time.
