ComicBookMovie wrote:EXCLUSIVE: Justice League Movie is a Go

Marvel Studios' Avengers film isn't the only superhero team coming to theater, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment are already planning a Justice League movie; but with a twist

Several weeks ago, Warner Bros announced they are planning on fill the gap left by the culmination of the Harry Potter franchise with DC superhero films. With Green Lantern due out in theaters next summer, along with the third installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and a rebooted Superman film the following year, fans were beginning to wonder how soon it would be before these heroes came together into one ensemble movie. Now we know; but it may not make every fan happy.

A Justice League of America film has been given the green light by Warner Bros. Though the film is still in it's very, very early stages (no script has been officially worked on), actors are quietly being pursued to fill the roles. The big surprise is the team roster: Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. That's right, folks, no Superman or Batman; at least not at first. The film will introduce the characters Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter to general audiences; since Green Lantern and The Flash movies would have already been released in theaters.

With the role of Green Lantern already taken by actor Ryan Reynolds, four slots are waiting to be filled. Can a JLA film meet the expected standards of fans, and gain general audience approval, without the inclusion of DC Comics' "big two" heroes? Fans will have to wait and see.

^ Pfft! They can't get it right can they!? It took Grant Morrison to do it and everything before and after has been rubbish! Magnificent 7! Though I'd boot Martian Manhunter and replace with all sorts of alternatives or 'rotating roster' specialist - Atom, Captain Marvel etc

AICN ran this story this morning, attributed to likable nerd and rom-com lead Jay Baruchel

Baruchel On George Miller’s Superman-Batman JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie: Dark, Brutal, Gory, ‘And Just F*cking Epic.’

“Sorcerer’s Apprentice” star Jay Baruchel spoke of George Miller’s “Justice League” movie, which came so close to happening the actors were already being fitted for their supersuits:

"I'll just say this, if we had been able to make the movie that we had gone down [to Australia] to rehearse, if you had seen the production art I'd seen ... it would've been the coolest thing ever. It would have been the neatest vision of Batman and the coolest vision of Superman you've ever seen. It would have been dark and fairly brutal and quite gory and just f*cking epic."

From Cinematical’s story on the matter:

According to Baruchel, Miller's vision would have finally put to rest any fears that a big-screen Justice League movie was a cheap cash grab that would degenerate into an exercise in camp.

But then Miller and Warner Bros. parted ways on the project.

According to Baruchel, it all came down to a price tag (upwards of $300 million) that would've made Justice League of America "the single most expensive movie in the history of movies." And that's with a cast full of "who's that again?" I'm sorry, but how do you spend $300 million with Artie Hammer playing Batman and D.J. Cotrona (who?) playing Superman?

And, as Baruchel points out, there was much Internet worry about whether “Road Warrior” director Miller, the man who gave us The Humungus and MasterBlaster, could still handle an action movie after having helmed less violent fare like “Lorenzo’s Oil,” “Babe: Pig In The City” and “Happy Feet.”

We’ll find out soon. Miller has is hard at work on “Fury Road,” his first new Mad Max movie in more than a quarter century.

Now that he is slightly more higher profile than he used to be, everyone was wondering what role he would have taken. Guess The Flash is the only one unless they were planning for him to be a Kyle Rayner GL.

Don't be confused with the previous go round with the George Miller (Mad Max) "J.L.A: Mortal" film. They're having another go at it again. ;)

Kryptonsite wrote:Justice League Movie In 2013?

The L.A. Times tonight posted an interesting interview with incoming Warner Bros. motion picture president Jeff Robinov that drops an interesting possibility – that after The Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises come in 2012, we could have a Justice League feature in 2013.

Here’s what was said:

His most immediate hurdle is filling the void that will be left this summer when the multibillion-dollar “Harry Potter” series shepherded by Horn ends. Robinov is betting on DC Comics characters to take center stage starting in June with the $200-million-plus production “Green Lantern.”

He’s then aiming to release new “Batman” and “Superman” films in 2012 and “Justice League,” a teaming of DC’s top heroes, in 2013.

Surely the success of The Avengers for Marvel might dictate how a team-up movie might do, but to do a team-up movie so soon after The Man Of Steel is an interesting notion, if it even involves Superman at all. (And it had better!)

You can read the L.A. Times piece here.

This looks to be a real possibility, there's a chance it could be "Smallville" related too.

Here Zack Snyder mentions that the new Superman movie and Justice League are separate from each other, even Nolan's Batman. It does give proof that Tom Welling may be Superman in this film. My hope anyway

I have noticed since 2004 that every time there's a new film related to Superman it constantly has Tom Welling as a potential candidate. Hopefully this time it's reality. 8-)

Worst Previews wrote:Ryan Reynolds Won't Play Green Lantern in "Justice League of America"

When Warner Bros announced that they are working on a "Justice League of America" movie, it was assumed that Christopher Nolan would somehow be involved, which would mean that Christian Bale and Henry Cavill would return to play Batman and Superman.

Zack Snyder then revealed that the studio's "JLA" movie has nothing to do with Nolan's "Batman" movies or his "Superman" reboot. Warners will apparently recast those two superhero roles.

Now, in an interview with Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern), the actor revealed that he too will not be part of "JLA." He said: "That's a whole business model and nothing to do with me at all. No one has ever approached me about doing a 'Justice League' movie."

Warners is already planning a sequel to "Green Lantern," which means that Reynolds will play the character in "Green Lantern 2" after a different actor plays the character in "JLA."

Calling this a Smallville movie until I see otherwise 8-)

Moviehole wrote:Justice League of America Hires Gangster Man

Not surprisingly, what with “The Avengers” making a quiet penny or three at the box office, DC is making quick moves to get “Justice League of America” off the ground. For the uninitiated, “Justice League” is to DC what “Avengers” is to Marvel – all their superhero characters teaming up for the one big multi-million dollar adventure.

“Mad Max” director George Miller attempted to get “Justice League” up a few years ago – with Armie Hammer as Batman, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, and Teresa Palmer as the villianous Talia al Ghul – but it fell apart at the 11th hour.

This latest incarnation will likely not have anything to do with Miller’s attempt.

Variety reports that Will Beale, the writer of Warner’s “The Gangster Squad” (and upcoming “Lethal Weapon” reboot), has been asked to pen the film. Beale’s involvement indicates that DC/Warner are looking for a meaty, very serious take on the comic books – something with lots of character and drama.

It would be great to see a “Justice League” movie finally come together – Superman,Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman and so on in the same movie!

DC/WB really should give up on this idea, it wont work. The reason The Avengers worked so well was because Marvel put in the hard yards and introduced the characters in their own movies and tied them all together. If they had just made an Avengers movie right from the start it likely wouldve just made as much as Iron Man did.

Superman and Batman are the only DC heroes anyone cares about, you'd think after the way Green Lantern bombed they would just stay focused on Batman and Superman and figure a way to somehow convince Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder to be involved in putting together a Batman/Superman movie - that at least would have a chance of being a good movie and earning big money if done right.

I hope one day they can find a way to make this work but I wont hold my breath. I feel like we'll see Avengers 2 before we see this movie take off.

Totally agree with you AM47. A "Worlds Finest" film is much more realistic than JLA which is probably a decade away.

Oh and the Tom Welling for Superman rumours have started up again but this website does have a point if the situation turns out that way:

Flavorwire wrote:Our pick, truth be told, is kind of a predictable one: Tom Welling played Clark Kent for ten years on TV’s Smallville, and did it well. If Justice League does end up disconnected from Man of Steel, casting Welling may be the closest thing Warner Brothers has to an Avengers-style connection to their film.

But I think his time has passed. Sadly. By the time JLA gets of the ground this will be Cavill's gig for sure.

Moviehole wrote:Christopher Nolan, Megan Gale denounce Justice League involvement

You can count both Chris Nolan and Megan Gale out of any future “Justice League” movie.

Though supermodel Gale (“I Love You Too”) was originally attached to play Wonder Woman in an earlier incarnation of the superhero team-up movie, she tells The Herald-Sun she doesn’t expect to be getting the call when the movie gets back up again.

“By the time they write the script and get it together, I don’t think they’ll be casting a 40-year-old Wonder Woman,” the 37-year-old said. “Some hot 20-year-old will get the job. As they should. I’m cool with that.”

Gale was to play the Amazonian princess in George Miller’s ill-fated version.

The popular Australian model told Moviehole recently that she was disappointed that she didn’t get to star opposite Armie Hammer (Batman) and Adam Brody (The Flash) in Miller’s “Justice League” movie, if only because she was a huge Wonder Woman fan.

“If it is indeed back on, it’d be interesting to know who’s directing it – because George Miller [who was originally attached to direct the film before it fell apart] is going to be busy with the new Mad Max film for the next couple of years”, Gale said, adding “I’d love to see it happen.”

A new script for the flick, will teams DC’s famous stable of superheroes, is being written by “Gangster Squad” scribe Will Beall.

As for who will be helming the film, “Dark Knight Rises” boss Chris Nolan said you can cross his name off the rumoured contenders list. Nolan tells that he’s not hanging out with Batman, nor his friends, anymore.

“I’ve got no plans to do anything more, and certainly, no involvement with any ‘Justice League’ project”, the filmmaker tells The Associated Press. “We’re finished with all we’re doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character.”

Nolan assumes he’s been mentioned as a candidate for the job because not only has he directed the past three “Bat” flicks, but he’s producing a new ‘Superman’ for the studio. But no, he’s done with costumed characters it seems.

Now that doesn’t mean Christian Bale won’t get the call to reprise Batman for “Justice League”, but it does confirm Nolan won’t be involved and thus, suggests Bale will probably knock back the offer to don the charcoal ears again.

If I were a betting man, I’d say Warner will try and entice Zack Snyder, directed of the studio’s upcoming ‘Superman’ reboot “Man of Steel”, into helping run the “Justice League” movie. Also a fairly good chance that that film’s leading man, Henry Cavill, may be asked to reprise Kal-El for it. But that’s speculation not solid intel.

TMT wrote:Warner Bros. Approaching Ben Affleck for "Justice League"

In what I consider a genius move, Variety is reporting The Brothers Warner is wooing Ben Affleck to take the helm on an upcoming Justice League flick. With the studio's golden boy Christopher Nolan requiring a well deserved break from the darkness and despair of Gotham City, Warner Bros looks as though they are turning to another one of their stud directors of choice in Affleck.

According to the trade, WB has only shown Affleck Will Beal's script, which now we know must be done or close to it. If you remember the studio also reportedly offered Affleck Man Of Steel before Zack Snyder finally accepted the gig. The multi-talented thespian/director pointed to special effects being one of the main reasons he didn't want to pursue the Superman job.

"The one benefit of having done all kinds of movies as an actor is, you learn the pros and cons of being tempted to do a really big movie because it costs a lot of money. With Superman, I think they're going to do a great version. Chris Nolan is brilliant and they've got a great director for it. "

"I've love to do something like Blade Runner but a lesson I've learned is to not look at movies based on budget, how much they'll spend on effects, or where they will shoot. Story is what's important. Also, there are a lot of guys ahead of me on the list to do epic effects movies."

You wonder what has changed for Affleck since then. My guess is that he is going to have a chance to take a pass on the Justice League script and most likely is also going to have a role in the film. I could actually see Affleck playing a pretty badass Lex Luthor, so I would be on bored for that. Let's not forget Affleck donned the cape and red boots as the George Reeves' version of Superman in Hollywoodland.

Awesome, if he agrees to go ahead with this film. :D
