I agree, and so soon after part 3. with the failure of a similar movie (RIPD) why bother?!

at least make it a part sequel/part remake with Tommy Lee recruiting a new, young agent.

well, Smitn turned down Independence Day 2, Men In Black 4, I hope he does Bad Boys 3 at least.

THR wrote:Jason Sudeikis in Talks to Star as Fletch in 'Fletch Won' (Exclusive)

Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and Michael Sugar are producing along with David List.

Jason Sudeikis has nabbed the iconic role of Fletch in Warner Bros.' Fletch Won, the first of a planned comedy franchise centered on the journalist character first played by Chevy Chase.

The Fletch movies are based on the Gregory McDonald mystery novels featuring an investigative reporter named I. M. Fletcher. The first book was written in 1974, before spawning 11 more. Chase made an indelible impact when he portrayed the character in the 1985 classic feature, which was followed by a sequel.

The project has long been in development as a remake or re-imagining. Warners picked up the rights in February 2011 and even then had a tough time cracking the code. After several writers didn't work out, David List, who reps the McDonald estate and is producing the project with Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and Michael Sugar, stepped in to take crack at it.

The draft passed muster with the studio and the producers, attracting Sudeikis, who is now in talks.

Fletch Won is an origin story, described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald's novels than the Chase movies.

The producers and the studio will now seek a director to take on the project, which is hoping to exude a Beverly Hills Cop or Midnight Run vibe.

Sudeikis spent 10 years on Saturday Night Live while also appearing in comedies such as Horrible Bosses and Hall Pass. His stock rose considerably last year (the same year he ended his run on SNL) after he starred in We’re the Millers, the drug road comedy from Warners’ arm New Line that grossed $270 million. The comedian has so far stuck to mostly playing supporting roles in his movies and Fletch will provide him the chance to carry a movie alone based on his charm and smarm.

Sudeikis, who is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment, will begin shooting the indie romantic comedy Tumbledown with Rebecca Hall at the end of March and will shoot Sleeping with Other People with Alison Brie this summer. He returns with Jason Bateman and Charlie Day for Horrible Bosses 2, which opens Nov. 26.

I don't mind this reboot, it sounds interesting and might turn out to be a good franchise again. I would like a quick cameo with Chevy Chase though. 8-)

Collider wrote:MGM Developing New Live-Action/CG-Animated PINK PANTHER Movie; David Silverman to Direct

Continuing with its recent model of mining older properties for content, MGM is moving forward with a new take on The Pink Panther. Heat Vision reports that the studio is developing a live-action/animation hybrid iteration of the classic character, with The Simpsons Movie director David Silverman onboard to take the helm. The focus of the new movie will be on the titular panther himself instead of inspector Jacques Clouseau, and The Simpsons writer Michael Price is in talks to pen the script. Hit the jump for more on the new movie.

Per Heat Vision, Clouseau will not appear in the new film at all, and the Panther himself will not speak—just as he did in the early short films. Clouseau will still exist in the mythology of the Pink Panther universe, but after the failure of the Steve Martin-fronted live-action films in 2006 and 2009, the producers decided that a new take focusing on the panther was needed. Actress Julie Andrews—the widow of the original Pink Panther director Blake Edwards—will produce this new feature alongside Walter Mirisch, who also produced the original films and TV series.

The story of this live-action/CG hybrid will be “an international jewel heist caper movie.” Henry Mancini’s classic score will be used once again, and it’ll be interesting to see how today’s audiences respond to a cartoon character that does not speak. Then again, the Despicable Me minions only speak gibberish and those movies both grossed over $1 billion.

No timetable is given for this new Pink Panther movie, but it seems to be pretty firmed up. We should hear more details over the next few months.

Collider wrote:Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele Will Produce New Line Cinema’s POLICE ACADEMY Reboot

When last we reported on the planned reboot of New Line Cinema’s Police Academy franchise, Scott Zabielski was attached to direct. He’s no longer in the picture, but Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are now signed on to produce the film. The seven-film franchise featured a group of quirky and hilariously unexceptional police recruits tasked with bringing law and order to city streets. There’s no word just yet as to whether or not they would also star, though their style of humor on the sketch comedy show Key & Peele certainly makes them well-suited.

THR reports that Key and Peele are on board to produce the Police Academy reboot, which has been in the works for some years now. Paul Maslansky, who produced the original 1984 film starring Steve Guttenberg, is also back to produce the reboot. Here’s what Maslansky had to say about the project:

“It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”

Key and Peele will return for a fourth season of Key & Peele on Comedy Central, and will appear in four episodes of the FX series Fargo as FBI members.

Doesn't sound like a complete reboot, we'll probably get some of the original cast return in some capacity for sure. 8-)

TMT wrote:Battlestar Galactica Film Ramping Up at Universal

BattleStar Galactica has changed the science fiction landscape from the 1970s until the 2010s and Universal is hoping to have the same impact by gearing up the star-crossed saga for the big-screen treatment.

Variety got the exclusive:

Universal is ramping up a movie version of the sci-fi franchise “Battlestar Galactica,” aiming to develop the film as a complete reimagining of the story.

“Transcendence” writer Jack Paglen has signed on to write the screenplay. Paglen has also committed to Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” sequel for Fox that will start production this fall.

Original series creator Glen Larson will produce the “Battlestar Galactica” film.

The science fiction tale of a colony of humans engaged in a deep war with creatures of their own design, Cylons, on a quest for the fabled planet known as "Earth" will be a complete retelling of the story, as imagined in the 4-season epic that aired on Sci-Fi channel that dealed with intense philisophical as well as religious themes while telling a more human story at the heart of a galaxy spanning struggle of espionage and corruption.

In my opinion a big science fiction farnchise would only be icing on the cake for Universal, who will be sitting on Jurassic World's big money next summer, as well as Fast & Furious 7 which will continue their record-breaking racing/crime saga.

While Universal has failed once recently with a potential sci-fi franchise (Battleship) they took a risk and won big with Snow White and the Huntsman in the same summer.

Are you excited for Battlestar Galactica?

Cool but I'm glad there's more confirmation for the "Prometheus sequel"! :D

Moviehole wrote:Gremlins remake in the works

A remake of 1984′s “Gremlins” is on the fast track at Warner Bros, Aint it Cool News reports.

Hot on the heels of yesterdays news that Warner are moving forward with a “Goonies” sequel, the site says a new “Gremlins” movie – rumored for years – is also a priority of the studio.

The word ‘remake’ suggests that the new film won’t have anything to do with the 1984 original or it’s 1990 sequel.

Of course when there's Goonies there is also Gremlins. ;)

must they remake every 80s classic?!

they call them classics cause if you remake something it won't be anywhere near as good!

there was a rumor they were gonna make a Gremlins 3, guess they thought too much time had passed since 2.

Universal Pictures has been trying to reboot Jean-Claude Van Damme's 1994 time-travel action film "Timecop" for many years. Back in May, the studio was reaching out to writers. And now comes word that it just hired writing partners Mark and Brian Gunn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).

The original "Timecop," which grossed $102 million globally, is set in the near future where time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) attempts to stop a crooked politician (Ron Silver) using time travel to further his political career.

The new version is said to be a more gritty and grounded police story with the sci-fi not playing as big of a role. It will still focus on one man's personal journey. Van Damme will not be involved.
