Universal Pictures has been trying to reboot Jean-Claude Van Damme's 1994 time-travel action film "Timecop" for many years. Back in May, the studio was reaching out to writers. And now comes word that it just hired writing partners Mark and Brian Gunn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).

The original "Timecop," which grossed $102 million globally, is set in the near future where time travel is regulated by a police force. One officer (Van Damme) attempts to stop a crooked politician (Ron Silver) using time travel to further his political career.

The new version is said to be a more gritty and grounded police story with the sci-fi not playing as big of a role. It will still focus on one man's personal journey. Van Damme will not be involved.

Thanks to Daily Mail, we now have the first two photos from the upcoming new "Macbeth" movie, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Check everything out below.

"Macbeth" is a new adaptation of the William Shakespeare play. It will retain the 11th century setting and is said to use the original dialogue as well. The story follows the devious Macbeth, a Scottish lord who will stop at nothing to become King.

The new movie is directed by Justin Kurzel (The Turning, The Snowtown Murders). A release date has yet to be announced.

Worst Previews wrote:"Man of Steel" Writer Hired for James Cameron's "Fantastic Voyage" Remake

David Goyer, the writer of "The Dark Knight" trilogy and "Man of Steel," has been hired to write a remake of 1966 sci-fi classic "Fantastic Voyage" that James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic) and 20th Century Fox are developing.

Goyer is one of many writers involved with the project that has been in the works since 2001. Fox is now considering it a priority and hopes to make a big-budget blockbuster.

"Fantastic Voyage" revolves around a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size and sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of a scientist to save his life.

Collider wrote:THE FLINTSTONES in Development at Warner Bros. as Animated Feature with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay as Executive Producers

The Flintstones are headed back to the big screen! Thankfully, the new project in development over at Warner Bros. is not slated to be a live-action reboot, but rather a feature-length animated film. (The 1994 Brian Levant picture starring John Goodman, and it’s Vegas-centered follow-up, was more than enough Flintstones live action for many a lifetime.) With Disney/Pixar currently owning the animated market (with all due respect to the fine folks over at DreamWorks Animation), perhaps WB wanted to get in on the action. What better place to start than with the modern Stone Age family, whose rights the studio acquired from Turner Broadcasting back in 1996? Word that the Gary Sanchez Productions team is on board, which sees Chris Henchy penning the script for executive producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, is an encouraging bit of news. Hit the jump for more.

News of a new The Flintstones film comes courtesy of Heat Vision. Following the antics of Fred and Wilma Flintstone, and their best friends Barney and Betty Rubble, The Flintstones was the model family of the 60s, complete with the hard-working/hard-playing breadwinners who worked in a quarry and went bowling with the members of the Water Buffaloes Lodge, alongside their animated housemakers, pets, children, and all the modern conveniences of prehistory. The property has seen a variety of reboots over the years, perhaps most recently with the high-profile Seth MacFarlane attached for a TV show and possible film (which was tabled after a weak pilot script). Perhaps this one is best left in the animated realm, in a similar vein to this year’s release of Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Let’s just leave the live action out of it.

If they have to go back to 'The Flinstones' then animated is the way to go.

Collider wrote:CLIFFHANGER Remake in the Works

Studio Canal and producer Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise) are moving forward with a Cliffhanger remake, mining the 1993 Sylvester Stallone action-adventure film for a modern day update. Directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2), the original pic starred Stallone as a traumatized mountain climber/rescue ranger who is summoned by thieves to help recover three briefcases carrying $100 million in total that were strewn across the Rocky Mountains. Deadline reports that Joe Gazzam has been hired to write the script for the remake after impressing Moritz with his take on the redo, which could end up at Sony given the producer’s relationship with the studio.

This is a bit of a baffling property to choose for a remake, but I guess if an extreme sports-centered Point Break redo can exist, a Cliffhanger do-over is par for the course.

Moritz has plenty of experience steering action-oriented spectacle films, having produced the entirety of the Fast & Furious franchise in addition to pics like xXx, S.W.A.T., and the recent Total Recall remake. It’ll be interesting to see how the Cliffhanger redo is approached given Hollywood’s over-reliance on CG effects versus practical stuntwork, but hopefully Moritz takes a cue from his Fast & Furious series and opts for more practical mountain climbing stunts.

Stallone’s original film isn’t necessarily beloved, but it was a sufficient offering to the early 1990s action boom. Since big summer tentpoles are almost always envisioned as part of a trilogy/quadrilogy/never-ending universe, perhaps Gazzam’s script will end the Cliffhanger remake on an actual cliffhanger?

Watch the gloriously over-dramatic trailer for the original film below.

Roland Emmerich rebooting his own film (Stargate) and now this! Bad day, Hollywood is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel now...

do you have to shout the name of the movie in the title ;) cause of the capitals :P

I actually made a thread for this years ago but changed it since I thought it wasn't gonna get made.

I did hear at one point they were gonna make a sequel called 'The Dam' with Sly.

a modern update?! this is ageless, what could they possibly add to this that's modern dammit?!

Do you want me to change it? I went over to IMDB and saw that it was fitting to make it all capitals.

I did look back but didn't find it, only in a general reboot thread.

'The Dam' would have been a better option since Sly is still active in the film industry. But yeah it is useless to reboot this film, I like the original just fine. 8-)

well yeah, didn't seem professional is all.

just like Point Break, Total Recall, Robocop and every other remake it is pointless and useless!

it'll be PG-13 so it's like they want there to be 2 different films with the same name with different US ratings.

to just say there's a PG-13 and R out there in the world for people to choose from.

yep, another remake. but it's one I see as a necessary one, updated with today's technology.

WarGames remake in the works

A remake of the ’80s classic “WarGames” is in the works.

Deadline says Dean Israelite, director of the forthcoming “Project Almanac”, is on directing duties and Arash Amel (“Grace of Monaco”) is scripting.

The original film starred Matthew Broderick as a teenage hacker who starts a game with a computer that paves the way for a potential World War III.

MGM has toyed with the idea of a “WarGames” remake before, attaching Seth Gordon to the project a few years back.
