here's a list of shows that ended last year -

Axed in 2014

“Axed” is such a volatile word, usually interpreted as being extinguished mid-production.

In reality even more shows are simply not recommissioned, rather than “axed” outright.

But whether they were ended by a network, not renewed or called it quits of their own volition, here are the shows confirmed as discontinued (or announced final seasons).

The Aussie list is quite short, due largely to the reluctance by networks to confirm a show’s future. While we don’t yet know the fate for Big Brother, do we really expect Seven to be Bringing Sexy Back?

So many cancellations and the networks wonder why viewership has dropped. Its because you never know if a show will be safe anymore plus American's don't seem to know good tv shows when they see it anymore. They give it one or 2 episodes and then bail. Shows get better as they go along but the viewers have already disappeared before they see the good. They do on some occasions but the past few years have proven they don't have very good taste and great shows are being cancelled. I wonder how long the list will be in 2015? I'm guessing it will be higher than this year.

thats very true, I guess shows have to do something different in the first episode to get viewers to continue to watch. take The Shield pilot, everything is going fine and then at the end.. something unexpected happens. not gonna say what but its usually something most shows wait till the end of a season for.

but then again there are many shows that are boring, uneventful as well as unfunny comedies that just keep going! so you can't win. you know what, there show be a world wide vote or something for shows networks are thinking about axing to make them decide if they keep a show going or not.

I wouldn't have axed Dads, it was funny to me. I would however axe New Girl, how is that shiw still going?! Raising Hope wasn't as good as it used to be so I can see why they axed it but I would have given it one more season.

From looking at that list, my viewing won't be affected much ... the only shows in the list that I've watched all episodes of are Carrie Diaries, Tomorrow People, Eureka, and A Place to Call Home.

I've seen a few eps of many others but I gave up on them before their networks/producers did. ;)

I can't believe it! USA has cancelled Covert Affairs!!!! WHAT GIVES???? As a fan of the show i know Australia isn't up to date but it didn't end with everything tied up. I'm so annoyed! This show deserved a proper ending. Stupid American networks.

Axed in 2016

In 2016 we said goodbye to another roll call of shows, old and new, hits and misses -including 26 years of Saturday Disney.

We also bid farewell to long-running shows that had confirmed their endings in 2015, including American Idol, Downton Abbey, The Mentalist and the last QI with Stephen Fry as host.

And we finally got that last ever episode of Medium from TEN. Only took 6 years -something Alison DuBois never saw comin’….

The majority on this list are US titles where networks sensibly let fans know if a show is returning or not. In Australia there is a remarkable tendency to say “no decision yet” then the show just flies under the radar never seen nor heard of again. With that in mind I’ve taken some liberties with this list.

Whether at the hands of the network, or a creative decision on their own part, here are the shows that wrapped in 2016 or confirmed their ending.

Axed in 2017

2017 did not begin well with the surprise announcement that long-running ABC series Good Game was folding, just months after celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Many more would follow, although most are US titles where the trend is to clarify a show’s future. Australia tends to say “no decision” as to production and the indecisive months stretch into years….

With that in mind where a show has not appeared in 12 months and isn’t on an Upfronts list I’m including it here.

Whether at the hands of the network, or a creative decision on their own part, here are the shows that 2017 has farewelled, or confirmed a final season. This year the number of local dramas is inordinately high.
