CBS television have been the successful network in acquiring the TV spin-off / re-do of ‘Beverly Hills Cop’. The new TV show, based on the hugely successful Eddie Murphy motor-mouth cop vehicle of he 80s and early 90s, will tell the story of blue collar cop Aaron Foley, son of detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) and his transfer from Detroit to Beverly Hills.

The pilot is to feature Murphy, who is expected to heavily feature throughout the course of the show, and is also produced by him and Shawn Ryan and Marney Hochman at Ryan’s Sony-based Midd Kid Productions.

Shawn Ryan has a tremendous track record, having previously penned ‘The Shield’, produced ‘The Unit’ and ‘Lie to Me’ and recently written the Tom Clancey / Kevin Costner spin off ‘Without Remorse’. His Sony-based production company Midd Kid Productions will join CBS, (home of ‘Hawaii 5-0′, ‘The Unit’ and ‘NCIS’).

As a one-time close-call project for Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy had three ”Beverly Hills Cop” movies, the second directed by the late-great Tony Scott. A spec script for a proposed fourth movie was even penned by our very own Clint Morris, with a hot-on-his-heels treatment for one once written by yours truly. Both were to never be, but more established writers like Derek Haas and Michael Brandt (“3:10 to Yuma”) near got theirs done. “Cop 4″ or no “Cop 4″, I for one am definitely looking forward to this show. The heat is on!

Looking forward to it! ;)

Brandon T.Jackson to play Axel Foley’s son on TV’s Beverly Hills Cop

While Brett Ratner’s been scratching his arse, all while remaining chuffed at the idea of directing a new “Beverly Hills Cop” (won’t be happening now, unsure if he’s got the memo), CBS and Eddie Murphy have been cartwheeling over a plan to turn the popular film series into a TV show – words courtesy “Shield” creator Shawn Ryan.
The show, which may or may not suck worse than a toothless librarian on a poor loans day, will feature on Axel Foley’s son – with Murphy making the odd appearance as dad.

Now, according to the Humor Mill, the “son” part has been filled. Brandon T. Jackson (“Percy Jackson.. And the thingie of thingies with the whatsie”) is Axel Junior, clean-speaking offspring of Axel and Billy Rosewood (guessing?).

In case you hadn’t heard, the new series will revolve around Axel Foley’s son who is trying to escape the shadow of his father (Murphy) who is now Chief Of Police in Detroit.

The Beverly Hills Cop franchise yielded three features starring Murphy in 1984, ’87 and 1994, and the new television show will be centered around Foley’s son, Aaron Foley who is a blue-collar cop who is also on the force and struggling to escape the shadow of his father.

Billy Rosewood is Back!

Judge Reinhold will reprise his role as Billy Rosewood – from the three “Beverly Hills Cop” movies – for CBS’ “Beverly Hills Cop” series.

Reinhold will reunite with Eddie Murphy, reprising Axel Foley, in the pilot episode of the show.

Described as a continuation of the movie franchise, the drama pilot from The Shield’s Shawn Ryan centers on Aaron (Brandon T. Jackson), the police officer son of Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), who takes down the criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills while working to escape his famous father’s shadow. Murphy will reprise his role as the wisecracking detective in the pilot and could recur should the project go to series.

Reinhold will reprise his role as Axel Foley’s partner, Billy Rosewood, in the pilot. Rosewood has moved on to a bigger gig with the city and plays a key role in bringing Aaron into the LAPD’s Beverly Hills precinct. Reinhold is currently slated to guest star in the pilot, which features Billy and Axel’s reunion and Aaron’s first meeting with his father’s now high-ranking friend.

Christine Lahti, David Denman and Kevin Pollak also feature on the show.

In one of the drafts of “Beverly Hills Cop 4″ – which likely won’t be made now – Reinhold’s Billy Rosewood was killed off. Seemingly they’re keeping him alive now. …Or are they!?

I don't mind this show happening but what bothers me the most is that there will be no swearing.

it'll be like the theatrical cut of Die Hard 4.

EDIT: this has been axed :(

Happy Days Season 5 is coming out on DVD on May 20th. :<

So happy about that. Season 4 came out in 2008 and I thought it was a dead series on DVD. The cover art is the famous Jump The Shark scene. Jumping The Shark was coined from that particular season of the show where the show was said to have decreased considerably in quality.

This show is not popular enough for its own separate thread- Portlandia

Portlandia

Personally, its a little escapism for me (of the hipster variety!) its basically a sketch show where they make things super silly and absurd in terms of the girl being a man, and the man being a girl

Anyway... interesting tidbit, Matt Groening, the creator of the Simpsons makes a fully fledged guest appearance on the show

The show has had many guest appearances from the alternative music culture

Has anyone been watching How to get away with murder?

Not sure if it warrants its own thread.

there has been a lot of news lately of shows that ended or were once axed, are coming back. Coach, The X Files, Prison Break. last year 24 returned, Heroes returns soon. but there has been news lately of TV show versions of movies, like Rush Hour. not only that, reboots. who knows if they'll actually happen. there was news of a Brady Bunch reboot but that hasn't happened yet.

but they have said that The CW are making Notebook & Friday the 13th TV Shows.

there was also news of a Training Day show, with the lead being white unlike the movie.

also they are thinking of rebooting ALF and Fresh Prince of Bel Air! both won't be continuations.

but geez, think of something new guys! just cause it worked before, doesn't mean it will for the small screen
