Airdate: Brooklyn Nine-Nine

US comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine finally has an Australian home, on SBS later this month with a double ep premiere.

The series that won the Golden Globe for best Comedy series, was originally expected to air in Australia on Nine.

The 22-part sitcom marks SBS ONE’s first foray into acquiring a long run US network series to establish a new comedy hour block.

Season two of Legally Brown joins SBS ONE Monday nights from August 11 at 10:00pm, followed by season two of cult hit Danger 5 taking over the slot later this year.

SBS Director of Television, Tony Iffland said “It’s a real coup for SBS to secure the series straight off the back of its shock double Golden Globe win earlier this year. With Brooklyn Nine-Nine, SBS is once again on the front foot, catching a new series just as it is gaining momentum overseas and delivering it to free-to-air Australian audiences.

“The length of this series really gives audiences something to sink their teeth into, and paired with the second series of two of our bold, Australian-made comedies; Legally Brown and later this year Danger 5, we are building a can’t-miss night of laughs.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine stars comedy whiz kid Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live) as man-child detective Jake Peralta of the 99th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Immature, carefree and goofy, Detective Peralta is also a maddeningly efficient crime solver whose world is upended when newly appointed; no-nonsense Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher) is put in charge to rein in him and his crew of misfit colleagues.

This New York precinct is packed full of comedy gold with an ensemble of eccentric characters including competitive Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero – Gossip Girl), the nervous and awkward Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio – Wreck-it-Ralph, Superbad), rough-around-the-edges Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz – Modern Family, The Closer), tough guy who’s lost his nerve Sgt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews – Bridesmaids) and self-absorbed office administrator Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti – Parks and Recreation).

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was a surprise winner of two coveted Golden Globe awards this year, taking out Best Comedy Series against its more established rivals, and a Best Actor – Comedy nod for Andy Samberg. The series was created by the writers and producers of Parks and Recreation, comedy heavyweights Dan Goor and Michael Schur.

Oddly, the main character (played by Andy Samberg) looks like Rove Mcmanus for some reason

SBS are doing a little switcharoo. they had premiere episodes on SBS ONE and repeated them later in the week on SBS 2.

now they are doing the opposite and playing new eps on SBS 2 first and then perhaps repeating it on SBS ONE.

Lately, SBS2 have been airing the show weeknights at 7.05pm.

Although I haven't watched the show in its initial run, which I am now regretting, I am enjoying its current nightly run. I may have not watched every episode so far, but I really like what I have watched so far :)
