Surprised no one found out that there's a new Batman tv series heading our way.. It's a prequel though. ;)

Collider wrote:Danny Cannon to Direct GOTHAM Pilot Centering on BATMAN’s James Gordon

We haven’t heard much about the Batman/Commissioner Gordon series Gotham since Fox won a bidding war for it, but now we know that Danny Cannon will direct and executive produce the pilot. Scripted by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), Gotham “explores the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains who made Gotham City famous.” The show, which has a series commitment and penalty, takes place in a Gotham plagued with crime before the arrival of Batman.

Cannon, who had some rough experiences in the movie world having directed Judge Dredd and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, has fared well in the television landscape. He’s directed the pilots for CSI, Dark Blue, and more recently, The Tomorrow People. Cannon is currently filming the TV movie, The Lottery.

Collider wrote:GOTHAM Series to Feature the Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and a Young Bruce Wayne

All we really knew about the upcoming Gotham series up until this point is that it would center on a younger version of Commissioner James Gordon and would not be featuring the Batman. Now, we know that those villains will include, at the very least, the Riddler, Catwoman and the Penguin. Scripted by Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), Gotham explores Gordon’s origins alongside the villains who made Gotham City famous, and takes place in a Gotham plagued with crime before the arrival of Batman. We’ll also get to see Bruce Wayne himself, though not in the role fans are used to.

Deadline confirms that Gotham, which has a series commitment, has been greenlighted for a pilot. Danny Cannon (CSI) will direct and executive produce said pilot, and plans to set up the writers room mid-February with every intention of going to series. During the ongoing TCA events, Fox chairman Kevin Reilly commented further on the series, specifically addressing the young Bruce Wayne’s role:

“The show will track Bruce from a child (around 12-year-old) until he puts on a cape (in the finale)… We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge. It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality.”

Unfortunately, no casting announcements have been made just yet, but now fans get to have fun speculating on just who should play the roles of Gordon, Riddler, Catwoman, the Penguin and yes, even a young Bruce Wayne.

Sounds like they're taking the 'Smallville' route. 8-)

Collider wrote:Donal Logue Offered Role of Detective Harvey Bullock in GOTHAM Series

We recently reported that Donal Logue (Terriers) had been offered the role of James Gordon in the upcoming Gotham series; well, that was half-right. Logue was indeed offered a role, but it was for the part of Detective Harvey Bullock. The show’s pilot describes the character as being in his 40s and acting as a mentor for the younger Gordon. Throughout comics history and subsequent adaptations, Bullock has always been a cop who works in the gray areas, sometimes known for taking bribes, roughing up suspects and even sabotaging Gordon’s work, while other times he acts as the “bad cop” who is ultimately trusted by Gordon. We’ll see which version makes its way into Gotham, and whether or not Logue will take on the role.

Superhero Hype wrote:Ben McKenzie Takes the Lead in FOX’s Gotham Series

Ben McKenzie ("Southland," "The O.C.") has officially taken the lead role of Detective James Gordon in FOX and Warner Bros. Television’s "Gotham," which has a series commitment at the network.

Based upon characters published by DC Comics, "Gotham" is a drama exploring the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous.

McKenzie himself took to Twitter to add his own thoughts:

"All I can promise is I will do my best not to screw this up. Can't wait to get to work."

Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Superhero Hype wrote:Fox’s Gotham Casts Oswald Cobblepot, Alfred Pennyworth and More

Following their announcement this weekend that "Southland" star Ben McKenzie will play James Gordon in their upcoming series "Gotham," Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced the casting of four more characters for the show.

Robin Lord Taylor (Accepted, "The Walking Dead") joins the cast as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin). His character is described as follows: With the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal, Oswald Cobblepot is a low-level psychopath (for gangster Fish Mooney) who hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor.

Sean Pertwee (Alan Partridge, Event Horizon) will appear as Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Pertwee's Alfred appears to be taking some cues from Geoff Johns comic "Batman: Earth One" as he's described as follows: A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Alfred Pennyworth has loyally served the Waynes. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne.

The series has also cast Zabryna Guevara ("Burn Notice") as Gordon's boss at the GCPD, Captain Essen, and Erin Richards ("Being Human", "Merlin") as Gordon's fiancee, Barbara Kean.

Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on the series. Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Joining a cast that just yesterday added four more names, Fox and Warner Bros. Television have announced that Donal Logue ("Terriers," "Sons of Anarchy") has been cast as Harvey Bullock in their upcoming series "Gotham." Originally rumored for a different role in the series, Logue's Bullock is described as Jim Gordon’s partner and mentor. The rough-around-the-edges detective plays loose with police procedure, but he gets results … and he does it with old-school, forceful panache.

The series has also cast Ben McKenzie as James Gordon, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Sean Pertwee asAlfred Pennyworth, Zabryna Guevara as Gordon's boss at the GCPD, Captain Essen, and Erin Richards as Gordon's fiancee, Barbara Kean.

Bruno Heller ("The Mentalist," "Rome") wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer on the series. Danny Cannon ("CSI," "Nikita") will direct and executive produce the pilot.

Worst Previews wrote:Jada Pinkett Smith is a Villain in Batman Prequel TV Series "Gotham"

It was recently announced that Ben McKenzie ("Southland") will play Commissioner Gordon, Robin Lord Taylor ("The Walking Dead") will play The Penguin, and Sean Pertwee (Event Horizon) will play Alfred in the upcoming "Gotham" TV series, which will be a prequel to the Batman franchise, in which we'll see the origin stories of Gordon and Batman.

Now comes word that Jada Pinkett Smith ("The Matrix" trilogy) has joined the cast Fish Mooney, who is described as "an imposing, hotheaded and notoriously sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner with street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book who is not one to be crossed."

Plenty more popular Batman villains have yet to be cast before filming officially begins in March.

Worst Previews wrote:"Batman" Prequel TV Series "Gotham" Casts Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle

The upcoming "Gotham" TV series, which will tell the origin stories of Jim Gordon and Batman, has just announced that 13-year-old David Mazouz ("Touch") has been cast as Bruce Wayne and "America's Best Dance Crew" dancer Camren Bicondova has been cast as Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman).

The two actors join Ben McKenzie as Jim Gordon, Sean Perwee as Alfred and Jada Pinkett-Smith as a crime boss, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock and Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepott (aka The Penguin).

"Gotham" starts with the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. From there, the show will focus on Gordon and his criminal cases, and end with Bruce becoming Batman.
