Moviehole wrote:Sam Raimi doing Evil Dead TV series

Sam Raimi surprised Comic-Con attendees today – firstly, by showing up unannounced – with news of an “Evil Dead” TV series.

Raimi, who directed the original “Evil Dead” series and produced the 2013 remake, is working with brother Ivan on the small-screen series.

While Raimi didn’t offer any insight into whether the show might fix on original series hero Ash, he did say Bruce Campbell – the face behind the chainsaw-wielding slayer- will be involved in some capacity.

Sadly, no update on the film on the film Raimi promised us a year or so ago (was it at Comic-Con when he announced it? think it was), “Army of Darkness 2″.

Collider wrote:EVIL DEAD TV Show Ordered By Starz; Bruce Campbell Will Star, Sam Raimi Will Direct

The Evil Dead TV show is officially a reality. We learned a few months ago that Sam Raimi was writing a version of Evil Dead for television, and Starz announced today that it has indeed ordered a TV iteration of the classic horror franchise straight-to-series for a debut in 2015. Bruce Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash in the show, titled Ash Vs. Evil Dead, as the story finds the character having spent “the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead.” He’s essentially forced out of retirement when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind.

Per Starz, Ash Vs. Evil Dead is a 10-episode series that will be doled out in half-hour installments. Sam Raimi will co-write the script for the pilot with his brother Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy (Chuck), and he will direct the first episode. Raimi will executive produce the series alongside Campbell and Evil Dead producer Rob Tapert, which is the same trio that was behind last year’s Evil Dead remake directed by Fede Alvarez.

While Raimi previously indicated that he was planning on making Army of Darkness 2/Evil Dead 4, a jump to series television might make more sense for the continuing adventures of Ash. The TV landscape is more creatively freeing, and one imagines Raimi might have had trouble getting a studio to properly finance a sequel to the 1993 film which made only $11.5 million a the box office. Speaking about the prospect of bringing Ash to the small screen, Raimi had this to say:

“Evil Dead has always been a blast. Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”

Starz is an interesting choice of venue for Ash Vs. Evil Dead, but it makes sense given that Raimi and Tapert executive produced the network’s Spartacus. Regardless, I’m very interested to see how this continuation of Ash’s story comes together, and to see how Raimi makes the transition to television after working on such large-scale feature films. If it’s something more akin to Drag Me to Hell, then sign me up.

Sounds like a mini series but it's all official now.

can't wait but really wish this was a movie, or even a two parter movie.

either way I'm sure this series will be 'groovy'

not sure if Foxtel or FTA will be airing it after though.

It's better than nothing Cyborg!

Great trailer, I see a 'bit' of influence from "Supernatural" and good to have a Xena reunion there as well with Lucy Lawless!

Looking forward to this!

true, that and the fact it's a continuation like it is a Evil Dead 4.

cause these days they remake it for TV. like Scream, Teen Wolf, 12 Monkeys and such. I wonder if they can still make a Evil Dead 4 movie, or just continue with the show. someone on IMDB had the idea of having Ash vs Freddy vs Jason for another season, like they originally wanted to do. that would be awesome, but all we have is a comic.

just finishes watching this and got Stan just so I could watch it.

it was a interesting series. still would have prefered a movie, cause it seems more like a dragged out version of a sequel. becomes repeats itself after a while. this almost seemed like a different version of what the movies were like, at least the first two. comedic sex scenes and swearing didn't belong in this. this was very violent and gore filled, more then the movies combined. I liked the series but wasn't great, not a huge fan of the movie series but this was ok. if I were to rate it like a movie it would get a 3 outta 5.
