In America, voting is completely free! They use toll-free numbers for their reality shows. Its so unfair!

I rarely SMS vote. I only vote if I have some connection with the contestant or in a moment of stupidity.

I would say rarely for me. I vote a handful of times a year. It just seems like such a waste of money. I never enter those sms competitions either - they should all be free to enter darn it - they're meant to entice you to buy the product, not rip you off even more.

The system in America is definitely better. With free voting, you'll definitely get more worthy winners for things such as AI.

Well yes that is DEFINITELY better. And their internet is for free!
Now is this because there's more people in America, or just because over here politicians and so forth are just money-hungry, Channel 9 loving pigs with bad 'Eddie MacGuire' teeth?

Me thinks the answer is #2.

Whether we like it or hate it, this is obviously an extremely successful new business model and going to be around for many years.

I don't have a problem with it.

Without the voting revenue we wouldn't have those programs, they cost a fortune to run.

TV viewing levels have been falling for years, and interactive RTV is helping to hold people's attention.

So more power to them.

Idol is not a talent quest anyway, it's a popularity contest.

Just think of all the people getting employment because of the phone voting. The musos who get to play in the band for AI must be stoked. :)
