- Smash rises without the competition while The Voice continues to power.
- The Bachelor does good i suppose but Alcatraz is in trouble. If FOX renew this over Terra Nova it will stump me. Why they would dump a good show over a pretty average one is beyond me.

The Voice is just continuing to smash it. When was the last time NBC was able to hold this many viewers for a show? Channel Nine would be happy that its success in the US is continuing strongly.

I'll just do a quick recap for last week.

Tuesday saw a fair few repeats and a few failures. Cougar Town and The River scored very low and i suspect both to be cancelled. New Girl still going well for FOX scoring a 3.0 but is rapidly slipping in total viewers.

Source: TV By The Numbers

Idol's first LIVE show saw it rise 12% on last week. Revenge for Real tanks at 10pm and the CW seems to be in freefall with a new ANTM now failing beaten by NEW One Tree Hill. ABC was mostly in repeats and The Biggest Loser rises slightly.

Source: TV By The Numbers

Big Bang Theory is a beast. Beating out Idol in the demo's and total viewers for the first time. Yes its beaten it in the demo's for a while now but those total viewers are rising week on week. Person of Interest hits series highs (Nine you have well and truly screwed up here) and The Mentalist towers at 10pm.

Source: TV By The Numbers

Is The Mentalist about to be shafted to make way for a 2 hour comedy block on Thursday for CBS? Its timeslot premiere of 9pm Fridays did a 1.8 and gave CBS its best Friday in a long while with Undercover Boss towering over the competition and proving a Friday hit.

- Daylight Saving has kicked in and Once Upon a Time hits a series low
- Harry's Law has to be the oldest skewing show on TV atm. A 1.1 yet nearly 9m viewers. What will NBC do?
- GCB rises week on week giving me hope the show is going to slowly grow. Its not bad. I enjoyed it but is this ABC's next hit?
- The Housewives are approaching the series final and doing ok all things considered.

- Smash is holding steady and will definitely be renewed. Mind you both H50 and Castle (with a DWTS lead-in) return next week so will see how things happen.
- CBS and CW were in repeat mode.

Friday saw ABC rise but it was CBS's Basketball that topped the night. Nikita is holding steady with a 0.5 and i am praying it gets renewed but like all CW shows i only expect 3 shows to be renewed and they are Secret Circle, Top Model and Vampire Diaries. IMO CW should just close its doors.

Thursday saw a big big dive in CBS's shares. What prompted them to show the Basketball over Big Bang, POI and Mentalist? Missing premieres to good figures but reviews for the show was mixed and i expect it to drop 0.3 next week. Touch did well in its timeslot premiere for its repeat viewing of the pilot. This could harm both POI and Greys.

Idol, Criminal Minds and Survivor all down while CSI was the only show to buck the trend and go up week on week. Idol scored a 5.4 while Criminal Minds got a 2.8. Ouch. ABC i feel is hurting Revenge by airing a stupid special called Revenge for Real. Give us Revenge already!!!

New Girl slips to a series low while most shows scored poorly. Cougar Town is dead thanks to a long long hiatus getting only 1.4. I hate My Teenage Daughter and Breaking In don't fare to good either. Body of Proof gets the same demo but nearly double the viewers. The Biggest Loser does ok for NBC but Fashion Star tanks and TEN has snagged yet another flop. The River hits a series low and looks likely to be cancelled. Ringer scores a 0.4 and 1.1m viewers for its new episode. Ouch!

Dancing With the Stars premieres with numbers that are the lowest ever for a season premiere. The Voice is hit but not too much. Could this be a reflection of how it will air here? Nine would be hoping so but i must say Seven are in a different position to ABC. 10pm Mondays is super competitive with all 3 shows continuing to thrive. People on forums in the US are trash talking either Smash or Castle but the fact all 3 shows can get above 2.2 shows how competitive the timeslot is.

Harry's Law is hitting CW territory in the demos but still close to 8m viewers means this is an old old skewing show. I feel NBC is still going to keep it around despite imo the drop in quality. Once continues to be dominant and gets a 2.9. Its good considering DST but would have liked a 3.0. GCB tops 10pm but down 0.3 week on week. Unfortunately i don't see a future with it. Its an ok drama but its not the best one out there.

The final ever episode of Desperate Housewives did reasonably well scoring a 3.2 and 11m viewers. Its way down on what this series used to get but you know what its a good viewership to say goodbye. Once Upon a Time finale also scored well with a 3.2 and 9.5m viewers, up 2 tenths on last week. It shows this show is going to be a force in the new season. That finale left me going OMFG!

Despite a 2 hour delay NBC's London Olympics Opening Ceremony broke records

TV By The Numbers wrote:Updated TV Ratings Friday: XXX Olympics Opening Ceremony Is Most-Watched Ever As NBC Scores Ratings Gold

Update: From 8p-12:02a ET/PT Friday's opening ceremony averaged 40.7 million viewers, which set a 50+ year record as the most-watched opening for a Summer Games, topping the Atlanta games (39.8 million). More details here.-

NBC won the night with adults 18-49 and in total viewers.

The Olympic opening ceremonies averaged a 12.4 adults 18-49 rating and 41.92 million viewers for the primetime portion of the telecast (8-11p, the telecast began at 7:30p ET/PT and ran until midnight). By comparison the 2008 opening ceremonies in Beijing averaged 35.31 million and a 10.3 adults 18-49 rating in the equivalent preliminary Fast National ratings for the primetime portion (in 2008 the telecast was from 8p-midnight). In the final numbers the 2008 opening ceremonies averaged 34.89 million viewers and a 10.3 adults 18-49 rating for the full telecast.

Here's the link to the overnight household ratings - they cover the full period of the telecast and also have a little local market info.

Note: Sorry, we only have half hours ratings today. In the meantime, averaging these half hours into ratings for each show will often lead to errors.
