So, what does the term 'jumping the shark' mean?

"It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favourite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it 'Jumping the Shark.' From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same."

I have been watching a lot of old TV shows at the moment and it is amazing how many of them from the 70s, 80s and 90s that were once hit shows got to a point that bam they jumped the shark.

Usually, you will find a show that has some sort of sexual tension between characters jumps the shark when they decided to have those two characters marry thus changing the premise of the original storyline.

A show can jump the shark at any time especially if they are at the peak of their viewership and think they can do no wrong with the storylines.

What shows can you think of that have 'jumped the shark'?
