Unfortunately, regardless of which party wins, we still end up with a politician. It is hard to know what any of the major parties really stand for, apart from doing whatever it takes to win. It is to be hoped that that coalition are up to the fiscal challenge that faces them, given that further global financial downturn is an economic certainty.

Well we are in the home stretch of this parliament finishing and at this stage I have lost count of how many valedictory speeches are being made that I will be surprised if anything gets done.

He'll be sent slithering back under his rock before too long.

I wonder where Julia's off to? First decent thing she's done is to get the hell out of politics without further ado. Maybe she can convince that waste of oxygen Peter Garrett to go with her?

My mother suspects so many voted for him just so they could 'knife him again' after the election (whether Labor wins or not). Their main objective now was to get rid of Julia.

He's gone, along with Wayne Swan, Craig Emerson, Stephen Conroy, Joe Ludwig, and (maybe) Greg Combet. (source)

I predict that following the Labour defeat in the next election (albeit not as bad a loss as it would have been) that the new leader of the Australian Labour Party will be Bill Shorten.

^ I wish Australian Politics was back to entertainment like this!

Those were some happy days

Warning, may raise your heart rate from the content of lots of stirring, antagonistic language

Brilliant! Just absolutely brilliant. Paul Keating is the reason I became interested in politics.

So the big question is now that Kevin Rudd is Prime Minister again will this change your vote in the upcoming election?
