The result is not that surprising as Andy Murray has been recovering from back surgery which forced him out of the Us Open

Not without controversy though. It seemed that at a crucial part of the match there was a double bounce which was debated about but they let it go because it was inconclusive. Either way Federer now plays Nadal on Friday night. I hope Nadal wins.

I was NOT expecting that. Li Na i expected to be there but for Cibulkova to do what she did to Aga today shocked me. I was NOT expecting that at all. I think she has a shot at the title but Li has been there before and i really think its her year. Either way we are going to have a new champion who hasn't won it before.

Li Na has won the 2014 Australian Open. Its a deserving win for her who has been runner up twice at the tournament already. Her acceptance speech had me in stitches though. It was hilarious. It was a great match and the first set was extremely tight.

Now we have the Men's. I think Nadal will win but Wawrinka is a tough nut to crack and he could cause the boilover.

The US Open is on right now

Contrary to popular belief that the tournament is on at an inconvenient time slot - in the day time and day time sessions in the US of A is not on at a reasonable waking hour in Australia , the evening / night sessions are on from breakfast through to the early afternoons in Australia

The only downside is everyone would be working during this time slot :? Its little wonder commercial networks are not that keen to buy the rights for the tournament :?

I'll tell you one thing about Roger Federer, one of four players who have hogged the grand slam titles for the last decade, at the expense of a tenacious fighter like Lleyton Hewitt

He evokes memories of an old fashioned Euro Professional Fencer who would go to the olympics and someone who is good at playing piano and someone who would go hunting

He has a hell of a poker face / a game face when you play against him, its an intimidating presence and its too much for something like this->

the Australian Open is back for another year.

Ana Ivanovic lost her opener to some qualifier earlier today - the first upset of the tournament.

Good to see both Seven and 7TWO have coverage from 11am til late. It gives us more options.
