perfect timing.

So glad that there is no break between the NRL and A-League season this time around.

Kevin Muscat still conducts himself like a common thug. The least charming guy in Australian sports. Surely he can be more original than tell people, like the opposition coach, to "love off".

We lost yesterday to Wellington at home. That really sucked. :( I dunno it seems me and sport seem to be having a bad clash right now. Everyone seems to be losing.

The big local derby was played last night. Sydney v the Wanderers. The hype for the game has been big this week here in Sydney, which has been great. The sky blues ended up winning 3-2.

The game was a sell-out, and a record 41,200 attended the game. It was the biggest ever crowd for a regular match in Sydney, and for the Sydney Football Stadium itself (beating an NRL regular crowd of 40,700 held last year). Well done to the Sydney FC, the A-League and even the media for hyping up the game.

(on a side note - its great to have the season back. I went to the game last week between Sydney and Melb City at the SFS. Good to see David Villa play for Melb and score a goal. Good opening crowd of 25,000 too. Game ended in a 1-all draw).

Sydney FC stunned Brisbane last night. Didn't see that coming at all. I just wonder if they will hold their form all season. The Wanderers are doing well too beating Al Hilal FC tonight 1-0 in the first of 2 legs of the AFC Champions League final.

- Frank Lowy has expressed interest in an expanded 12-team competition and adopt a promotion and regulation league.
- But Lowy understands this formula takes time and isn't pressing on the issue at the moment.
- Lowy hopes that two teams could join the A-League in the 2016/17 season.

info above was found from this link: http://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/f ... 1dgyv.html

A regulation competition could work, but I think that we're still some time away from doing so.

As for adding two further teams, it will bound to happen, but will the suggestive 2016/17 season be too soon? That's only in two years time. But I would imagine that by the end of this decade (aka - the 2019/20 season), it should happen. Expansion shouldn't be rushed. Just look at how the Gold Coast and North Queensland teams turned out! And then look at Western Wanderers rise to the top. They are just one win away from becoming the Asian Cup Champions. And Melbourne Heart has now become the Melbourne City and will stay in the comp for some time now.

But the question is where the new clubs should be based? Potential teams would be Cairns, Brisbane/South Queensland; Canberra and Wollongong.

A North Qld team flopped, as did Gold Coast. But I do believe that a team from South Queensland should join. Whether its entirely from Gold Coast, or that a second Brisbane team join and call it South Queensland (and play in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast).

As for Canberra and the South Coast (Wollongong) now. I think that Canberra would be more of an advantage to join. They have the stadium, and have the W-League team from Canberra too. But do they have the players? Could the South Coast have more of a youth support coming through. And would have WIN Stadium at the Gong as their ground.

thoughts?

I do like the idea but where would you place the teams. The A-League does have its followers but you have to place the teams right. I do like the idea of a team in Tassie but then you've got to account for the possible rain. Its been proven in the past that expansion doesn't work unfortunately. Too many other sports to do it.

Central Coast took their home game against Melbourne Victory to North Sydney Oval last night. Mariners won 3-0, in front of a crowd of 7,000 odd. The playing pitch was difficult to play on, with an harden cricket pitch in the middle and weather conditions didn't help. Muscat, Victory coach, whinged about the ground, but he does tend to whinge about everything. lol.

I don't mind the venue, but games should be played there in the first few rounds or the last few rounds where no cricket games have been played in a while.
