The French Open tennis tournament has commenced at Roland Garros in France. Who do you think has a chance at being name the clay court champ?

My picks -->

Women
Kim Clijsters
Justine Henin-Hardenne
Martina Hingis (always a possibility)
Amelie Mauresmo

Men
Rodger Federer (of course  )
Rafael Nadal
A few other clay courters such as Juan Carlos Ferrero might have a chance too.
Sydney: Forgive me for being forthright, or female, but this is the way it's going to be.

Nadia Petrova is the favourite with winning three clay titles this year included won over Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters. Yet she blew up last night with an injury and losing to Akiko Morigami! That was a shocker. I think Henin-Hardenne will defend her title successful. Clijsters won't make the final for sure.

I have a feeling that Roger Federer is hungrier and beat Rafael Nadal this time if they meet each other in the final. He had few match points against Nadal at Rome but unable to convert one of those! Juan Carlos Ferrero won't win the title, mark my word. The darkhorse would be Tommy Robredo who he played very well lately and won Hamburg.

I know it is a bit late, but just wanted to say congrats to Sam Stouser for her top effort in this years French Open. Looks like she is becoming a real star, it is a just reward for all that effort she must have done at the gym to begin the year off.

Yeah Stouser did really well to make it so far, and was surprised that Nadal got knocked out so early.

Yeah me too, is the guy who knocked him out still in it? If not who beat him?

He's still in it, Soderling (beat Nadal) is playing Gonzalez in the semi's. Federer v Del Potro in the other.

Great tournament from Sam, she played so well throughout. This has been a real interesting slam, good mix up of upsets with stories to tell, can Safina finall get that slam, Federer and that French Open title, should be a good weekend

Yes matt_897 that will be very interesting, Federer going for his first french open. I'd imagine if Soderling gets to the final he'll use similar tactics he used against nadal, just completely going for it.

Great effort from Sam Stosur. Bad luck that she didn't make it to the final, but the semi is a great effort and now she is in the top 20. Well done!!! At least she played quite well in the semi and didn't get smashed. Pushed it to three pretty tight sets. Hopefully her good form will continue.

Unusually for me, I'll be going for Federer. I would like to see him finally win the French and I don't really like any of the others who are left.

Good on Sam. I was holding my breath in the second set thinking that is it but she came through. Its a shame she didnt make the final but this is a huge stepping stone towards the future and she should get an even better draw at wimbledon now she is in the top 20.

Also Fed has lost the first set. I hope he loses because i hate him. I dont want him to win the French ever! The way he has been going on is bull.

Whoever wins will have to face Soderling in the final. He beat Gonzalez in 5 sets
