It's just that my mum's interested in one Paul Simon song, and dad's interested in that song Great Southern Land by Icehouse and I thought it'd be easier to buy the individual songs on iTunes rather than go looking for CDs at JB Hi-Fi which would contain lots of extra songs that the parents aren't interested in.

Also, buying one song would be cheaper than a whole CD of songs.

But the problem is that my folks are old fashioned and don't have iPods or any MP3 players and barely understand how this new technology works.
They prefer CDs and CD players and still own all their old records. Plus several cassettes. So buying the songs in MP3 format will be no use unless they can be copied/transferred to CD.

I don't know if I might need certain software?

Songs purchased from Itunes are not MP3 format, but a format close to it.

However if you create a playlist is Itunes (in the program, not with songs on an iPod), you can right click on the playlist in the list down the left hand side and select "burn play list to disc" and as long as all the files are still stored on your computer they will be burned onto a disc that should be playable is most CD players.

Oh OK, didn't know that! I assumed they were just MP3s (especially since a lot of MP3s on file sharing sites have iTunes stuff on them).

Did anyone hear what they were saying about ITunes on the news this morning?
I missed most of it. They were saying something about ITunes closing down over royalty disputes or something, and that the IPod will be a thing of the past?

Just did an unsuccessful Google search and the only thing that I could find was an announcement about a temporary shutdown in Dec 2010 and sometime in 2008.

Not even a headline in a major newspaper.

Yeah I checked too in Factiva (a commercial and somewhat better equiv of Google News used in universities) and not a single mention.

That's Nine National News for you.

I did a search too before I posted, and found the same old news Admiral found.
